It’s not about the kind of instrument you play. It’s not about the amount of training you’ve had. It’s not about the places where you’ve performed. Right now it’s all about where you’re going.
Indie Music Group is the creation of entrepreneur John “Indie” Levy and musician Kevin Drew. KDrew, then an aspiring producer, sent some beats to Levy, who was managing hip hop artists after a lucrative stint in real estate. Impressed, Levy took a meeting with KDrew and recognized that he was not only a talented musician, but a terrific singer as well. They began working together and the duo soon realized that on their own they were able to achieve every thing a label could provide to them. Their collaboration proved so successful that they felt they could offer the same philosophy to both up and coming and established artists who were looking for a home for their music without getting caught up in the red tape of a corporate entity.
One of the hallmarks of Indie Music Group is accountability. The partners want each artist, no matter how big or small, to be a part of each aspect of their career. That involvement, on all fronts, is what makes Indie Music Group stand out from the pack.
Says President John Levy “The Indie in Indie Music Group isn’t just because we’re independent from a major label, but because independently we were able to navigate the music business without any help from any one the outside. Kevin and I started working together a few years ago and it’s amazing to see our dream becoming a reality. With the music industry evolving so rapidly over the past 4 years, we’ve had to work hard and work smart to get our foot in the door. We’re very proud of our achievements and feel like we can take things to the next level.”
Continues KDrew, “John and I wear many hats. We are the A&R guy, the Promo guy, the PR guy, even the intern. By involving ourselves in every aspect of the business we’ve become fluent in every facet. We’ve immersed ourselves in this culture and there isn’t a situation we aren’t well-versed in.”
The once two-man-show now has a staff dedicated to finding and nurturing great talent. From the enthusiasm of the Indie crew to the open-minded way of conducting business to the sheer love of what they’re doing every day, IMG is proudly an independent entity that will leave an indelible mark on the way you hear music.
